How to Get a School Grant

The Basics of Finding a Grant
I've been writing this blog for several years now. I do my best to make my advice straightforward and easy to follow because many of my readers are relatively inexperienced grant writers. In fact, quite a few are still threatening to write that first grant. I have a list of seven or eight steps I usually recommend for finding and completing a successful grant application. Today, I just want to remind you of the steps you need to take to find an appropriate grant to write. Read more.

Colorations® Wheat and Gluten Free Dough Helps Children with Food Allergies!
Hi, My name is Allison Craig, I am the Customer Product Advisor, and I have worked at Discount School Supply® for 16 years. One of the most rewarding aspects of my position is to help parents and caregivers find products to meet their child's needs due to allergies. According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, approximately 6% of allergy sufferers have food/drug allergies as their primary allergy. Food allergy is more common among children than adults, and 90% of all food allergy reactions are caused by only eight foods: milk, soy, eggs, wheat, peanuts, tree nuts, fish and shellfish. Art Gallery Tour
I had the distinct pleasure of attending a gallery stroll for a 6 year-old boy the other day. We had been invited by his father, who collects art, to see his son's exhibit. They had a local small gallery in one of our malls and we arrived to see the art that Nathan had created. Read more.

Hide the Object
Infant and Toddler QuickSource® reminds us that sensory awareness becomes part of an infant's life at a very early age. "Playing Peek-a-Boo, placing items in her mouth and becoming aware of her own body parts will eventually help the child support the scientific wonderment of our world." Here's an activity called Hide the Object that helps children begin to understand patterns involved in simple games. Read more.

Learning Disabilities
The term learning disability is a classification used to describe students who have difficulty learning in the usual ways. This type of disability is caused by unknown factors which affect the ability of the brain to receive and process information. Almost 13% or about 6.5 million students are enrolled in special education classes. Of those students, approximately 2.5 million are identified as learning disabled. Read more.

Enchantment Boxes
I've been testing out art ideas for my CAEYC workshop next wweek, and have fallen in love with our new Mini Geometric Papier-Mache Boxes. At first I was shocked at how small they were, but then I realized small can be an asset (think tooth fairy box, ring box, and the old saying "big things come in small packages"). Aren't they fun?. Super Seeds
(submitted by C. Benjamin)

2 c raw pumpkin or sunflower seeds, or a mixture of both
3 T soy sauce
2 t honey
curry powder or cayenne pepper to taste (optional)

Stir together soy sauce and honey (and spices, if using) in a small dish. Toast seeds in a large non-stick skillet on medium high heat, stirring constantly. Toast seeds for 4-5 minutes or until fragrant and lightly browned. Carefully turn out seeds into a heat-proof bowl and add soy sauce mixture. Watch out for steam! Stir seeds with a long-handled, heat-proof spoon or spatula to coat evenly. Return to skillet and heat. Stir and turn lightly until dry - this should take just a minute or less. Be careful not to burn seeds. Seeds will be slightly shiny. Turn out seeds onto a heat-proof plate or dish and serve when cool. Store in an airtight container
