ACTIVITY
Our Gallery

An Activity for Preschoolers
In this activity children create artwork to craft one colossal masterpiece! Their individual art projects will become a collaborative work of art that they can be proud of. This is a great opportunity to develop cooperative thinking skills as well as learn about teamwork.
Curriculum Area
Art and Social Emotional
Before You Start
Give each child one sheet of construction paper and let them choose from any of the craft materials to create their project. They can draw, paint, color and glue various materials onto the sheet. Encourage them to make three-dimensional shapes out of the sheets—their projects don't need to lie flat!
Let's Begin
1. On the floor, roll out enough the butcher paper so that there is enough space to glue each child's project onto the paper.

2. Have the children each choose a spot on the butcher paper onto which they will glue their project.

3. Emphasize how each child's artwork contributed to the gallery and talk about how the different items mix together.

4. Talk about the effect that the collaborative work creates as opposed to completing individual pieces. Have the children discuss the differences and similarities of the artistic process of creating a collaborative work compared to making art projects by themselves. How did they feel knowing their work would be part of a larger project?
Furthermore
Display the collage as a banner on the wall of your center. Have the children discuss its different features, shapes and colors. Have each young artist share his or her inspiration for creating the piece.
