ACTIVITY
The Duckling and the Swan

Babies are sensitive to textures and faces—they will enjoy the feel of the soft feathers and will be attracted to the expressions that the duckling and swan wear.
Curriculum Area
Sensory Development
Before You Start
Put the two pieces of white construction paper together and cut them into two identical swan shapes. Glue the shapes together, leaving a 1” hole at the bottom unglued. Insert the craft stick into the hole partway and glue to the paper to form a puppet. Choose one side of the puppet to be the ugly duckling side, draw an eye, color the beak orange, and draw a frown onto the beak. On the other side of the puppet (the swan side), draw an eye, color the beak orange, and draw a smile onto the beak.
Let's Begin
1. Introduce the feathers to the baby by letting her touch one.

2. Help the baby dip the brown feathers one by one into the glue and adhere them to the ugly duckling side.

3. Flip over the puppet and continue on the other side with the white feathers.

4. Let dry.
Furthermore
Look for swan shapes in activity books or online if you need a template.
