ACTIVITY
Feeling Music

Babies respond to music and rhythm. Some music can be soothing while other music makes them want to wiggle. Using music is a great way to introduce emotions to baby, while developing gross motor skills.

Before You Start
No Preparation Needed
Let's Begin
1. Let babies get on the floor so they can wiggle around. Play something lively and see if they listen and move.

2. Talk with baby about how the music might make a person feel. Say “this is a happy song” or “this music makes me want to wiggle.”

3. Have baby on your lap for some of the slower music. Bounce her to the rhythm and talk to her. Switch to a faster paced song and change your bouncing as well.
Furthermore
Use music throughout the day with infants. Sing songs about feelings like “If You're Happy and You Know It.”
