By Julie Joy
Infants are listening and learning all the time. Reciting rhymes, finger plays, and songs help with their language skills.

Before You Start
Get baby into a comfortable position. This is good to play while diapering the infant or any time his tummy, toes, and other body parts are exposed.
Let's Begin
1. Recite the following rhyme using your hand to tickle baby’s body parts. Busy bugs are everywhere, Over here and over there, On your ears and on your nose, Even nibbling on your toes.
2. Vary the sound of your voice and the places you tickle baby. See what he likes best.
3. Sing simple songs to infants as well. Try singing “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” while crawling your hand up her leg or arm.
Furthermore
There are many cassette tapes or books with rhymes and chants ideal for babies. Check with your library for titles such as The Lap-Time Song and Play Book by Jane Yolen or The Baby’s Lap Book by Kay Chorao.
