ACTIVITY
Happy Birthday Little Gorilla

Growing up is scary as we experience new changes and feelings. This activity assures the toddler that even though she is growing up, everybody still loves her!
Curriculum Area
Dramatic Play
Before You Start
Set up the dramatic play area to look like a birthday party.
Let's Begin
1. Read Little Gorilla by Ruth Bornstein. At the end of the book, put a birthday hat on the stuffed gorilla. Put him in the birthday chair in the dramatic play area. Light a birthday cake and place it in front of the gorilla. Sing “Happy Birthday” and have the children blow out the candles. Share the cake and have a birthday party for little gorilla.
Furthermore
Take pictures of the birthday party. Put the pictures in a birthday album along with comments the children make during the party. Send the gorilla and album home with each child to look through and share with their family.
