Although toddlers love to pretend, they’re only able to do so if the imaginary activity is within the scope of their experience. That’s why you should talk to them first about what’s involved in sitting around a campfire. At first, you may also have to model these activities for them.

1. Sit in a circle with the children, and ask them to imagine there’s a campfire in the center. Then invite them to show you (demonstrating if you need to):
• Warming their hands
• Roasting marshmallows on sticks
• Swaying with arms around each other’s shoulders, as though to a song
• Doing a dance around the campfire |

| Add some lively music to the latter challenge to make it more realistic! |
