ACTIVITY
Repeat After Me

An Activity for Preschoolers
Children will enjoy sitting around the "campfire" as they participate in a "Repeat After Me" song. This fun activity helps reinforce children's listening and direction following skills.

Before You Start
Clear an area in the room where you can create a "campfire" out of the above materials. Place the rocks in a circle, layer the stick or empty paper towel rolls in the center of the circle, and place the crepe in the sticks to represent the fire.
Let's Begin
1. Gather the children to sit in a circle around the "campfire."

2. Tell them that when people or groups go camping they often sing songs around the campfire and that today you are going to sing a "Repeat After Me" song called Boom Chicka Boom.

3. Explain that this means that you (the leader) will sing part of the song and they will repeat each part of the song as you tell them to.

Boom Chicka Boom

I said a-boom-chick-a-boom! [Group echoes I said a-boom-chick-a-boom!]
I said a-boom-chick-a-boom! [Group echoes.]
I said a-boom-chick-a-rock-a-chick-a-rock-a-chick-a-boom!
[Group echoes.]

Uh-huh! [Group echoes.]
On Yeah! [Group echoes.]
This time! [Group echoes.]
We sing! [Group echoes.]

HIGHER!

Each time add a different variation such as: LOWER, WHISPER, LOUDER, FASTER, SLOWER, etc.
Furthermore
Gather children around the "campfire" and read Camp Knock Knock by Betsy Duffey or Danny and the Dinosaur Go to Camp by Syd Hoff.
