ACTIVITY
Peek-a-boo!

An Activity for Preschoolers
Babies don’t know a thing about camping out, but they sure love to play peek-a-boo. You can add a “camping” theme to this popular game by hiding under a blanket – as though it were a tent.
Curriculum Area
Sensory Development and Science
Before You Start
Sit facing your baby, and drape the blanket over you.
Let's Begin
1. Play Peekaboo! Disappear and reappear as long as your baby stays interested. Then, if she’ll let you, drape the blanket over the baby instead and continue the game.
Furthermore
Object permanence is the phrase used to describe the baby’s ability to realize a hidden object still exists. Depending on your child’s developmental stage, he may or may not be ready for this realization. But, either way, he’ll still enjoy having you place a favorite stuffed animal or toy under the blanket and then having it reappear. You can tell whether or not the baby has achieved object permanence by watching to see whether or not he seeks out the toy on his own.
