ACTIVITY
Family Recipes

This is a collaborative effort between home and school. Students practice reading and writing. Cooking activities provide opportunities for measuring, mixing, and following instructions.
Curriculum Area
Literacy, Math
Before You Start
Send home a note asking parents to send back a favorite family recipe or the recipe for something their child really likes to eat. Have a few extra recipes on hand, just in case a family forgets.
Let's Begin
1. Have each student tell the name of his recipe.

2. Students should copy their recipe from home onto paper. Let them add illustrations as well.

3. Create a cover that reads “Our Family Recipes” and bind together.

4. Let the children choose a few recipes to make together as a group. Or have a “family recipe day” and invite students to bring in samples of favorite foods.
Furthermore
You may want to make copies of the pages and bind together so that each student can take one home.
