ACTIVITY
Bear Family

This familiar story about a family of bears introduces math concepts like size and sequencing.
Curriculum Area
Math
Before You Start
Cut the bear shapes out of flannel or construction paper. Laminate paper bears.
Let's Begin
1. Read or tell the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Use a big, medium, and small voice. Toddlers may not sit through the whole story - that is okay.

2. In small groups show the children the three bears. Point out the papa bear, the mama bear, and the baby bear. Label them big, medium, and small.

3. Encourage the toddlers to put the bears in order. Have him point out which bear is big and which is small.

4. Older toddlers may be able to verbalize as well. Praise all efforts.
Furthermore
If you have three bears of different sizes, repeat the activity with the stuffed animals. Extend the concept with other objects – three blocks, three balls, additional animals, and so on.
