Sitting with the children in a circle, talk to them about owls, including their ability to swivel their heads, the “who-o-o” sound they make, and the fact that they’re considered to be wise. Designate a hiding place.

1. Choose one child to be the wise owl. Ask him to close his eyes and pretend to be perched on a tree limb.
2. Once the owl’s eyes are closed, point to another child, who leaves the circle and hides in the predetermined spot.
3. When the child is hidden, ask the owl to open his eyes and try to determine “who-o-s” missing.
4. Repeat the activity until every child has a chance to be the owl. |

| If the group is too small to make the activity challenging, place several objects in the middle of the circle, pointing to and naming each one. When the appointed owl has closed her eyes, remove one object and place it behind your back. When she opens her eyes, she has to determine what’s missing. |
