ACTIVITY
Hats Off!

This simple dress-up game encourages language interaction between you and the infant. It also gives baby an opportunity to take hats off and on and watch herself in the mirror. At this stage, babies are starting to become aware of their bodies.
Curriculum Area
Language, Dramatic Play
Before You Start
Collect different hats representing community friends, such as police officers, nurses, doctors, firefighters, and so on. If you do not have these, you can use ball hats, party hats, or whatever you can find.
Let's Begin
1. Place the first hat on the baby’s head. Talk to him about what you are doing.

2. Repeat with each hat. Change your voice tone and what you say each time.

3. Move the baby so she can see herself in the mirror as you play.

4. Watch to see if baby will try to remove the hat. Praise her efforts.

5. Give yourself a turn wearing a hat and show baby how silly you look.
