ACTIVITY
Marble Painting Spider Webs

Students create designs that resemble a web, and compare these to the structure of real webs.
Before You Start
Have nonfiction books available that show pictures of spiders and their webs. Suggestions include Inside and Outside Spiders by Sandra Markle and Spiders Spin Webs by Yvonne Winer.
Let's Begin
1. Have the students place their paper inside the container, such as a box lid or dishtub.

2. Drip a puddle of white paint into the center of the paper. Add a marble.

3. Show the students how to tip their container to guide the marble through the paint and around the paper, leaving a trail. Try to create a spider like web with the motion.

4. Compare the finished webs to the designs and patterns of real webs. Note the differences and similarities.
Furthermore
Create a group spider web by forming a circle. Using a ball of yarn pass it between children as it unravels, weaving a disorganized web among the students.
