ACTIVITY
Kid Splits

In this activity children each bring one different item to create a banana split frenzy. Combinations of foods that make a delicious snack are similar to the combination of children that make an excellent classroom.
Before You Start
Send a letter home asking children to bring a specific item - a banana, whipped cream, small topping, cherries, etc. Have a few extra items on hand in case a child forgets.
Let's Begin
1. Gather the children in a circle. Let each child show the special thing they brought that day.

2. Show a carton of ice cream. Tell the children they will have ice cream for a snack today. Ask for suggestions on what to do with the additional items.

3. Set the banana split bar up and allow children to create their own. This can be done outside. Be prepared for a big mess!

4. Emphasize how each child contributed something and how the different items mix together.
Furthermore
Read or tell the story of Stone Soup. Talk about the similarities between their soup and your Kid Splits.
