ACTIVITY
Digging for Dinosaurs

Sensory play is important for toddlers. Scooping and pouring uses fine motor skills as well as introducing basic math concepts such as less and more. Sets of small creatures, like dinosaurs, encourage one to one correspondence, counting, and other pre-math ideas.
Before You Start
If you do not have a sand table or area, dump sand into several smaller dishpans
Let's Begin
1. Bury inexpensive plastic dinosaurs in the sand.

2. Show the children how to dig with spoons or shovels to discover the dinosaurs.

3. Encourage the toddler to cover up the dinosaurs to hide from view. Show them how to line up the dinosaurs in rows or bury together in sets of two.
Furthermore
You can substitute oatmeal for sand if you desire. This is not harmful if the younger children put it in their mouths and cleans up with a vacuum.
