ACTIVITY
Handprint Spiders

Babies can do art, too! Tiny handprints turn into a creepy crawly spider in this activity. Infants enjoy the textures and the process.
Curriculum Area
Art/Sensory
Before You Start
Have some warm, sudsy water or wipes ready for clean up.
Let's Begin
1. Using a paintbrush, cover baby’s hand with paint. Talk to the baby while dipping her hand in paint – does it tickle?

2. Press baby’s hand onto the paper. Lift up and turn the paper, pressing down again so that the hand sets down in the same area but the fingers are on the opposite side.

3. Clean up. Talk to baby while you wash her.

4. After the paint dries, draw in details such as eyes.

5. Some babies will not open their hands enough to get a good print. That’s okay. If you are really determined, draw around the hand instead.
Furthermore
Don’t forget to put the child’s name and the date on the picture. Parents will want to remember when their baby was so tiny.
