ACTIVITY
Oceanographers Part 1, The Water

This activity kicks off a great theme for underwater exploration.
Curriculum Area
Art/Science
Before You Start
Plan a field trip to a salt water aquarium. Take pictures and talk about the adventure with the children before beginning this theme. Look at pictures of the ocean. Talk about the colors they see in the ocean water.
Let's Begin
1. This activity will begin a great underwater theme adventure. Cover the floor with drop cloths. Encourage the children to paint the acetate blue.

2. Encourage them to add small amounts of other colors they see in the ocean water as well. The blue acetate will then be hung on the walls and windows of the dramatic play area to begin the classroom’s transformation into an ocean.
Furthermore
Have them take samples of tap water, pond water, and other types of water they find. Encourage them to take notice of the colors and consistency of the water.
