Thank you to all who replied to my posting. The suggestions are all great and most of them I have already tried. I have found that the best thing for me to do is to watch the child interact with the other children and step in when a situation appears to be arising. Catch it before it happens. Today I spoke with him about thinking about some things that make him happy...garbage trucks, street sweepers, etc... It worked!
