This is in response to Lesley Kimove's posting regarding Early childhood educators being viewed as babysiters. I have been in the field for two years, which I have enjoyed emmensely. I graduated from Sheridan college (in Canada) with a lot of enthusiasm and idealism. Throughout the past two years, I have encountered obstacles that could have deflated my initiative. However, I have learned one important motto, which I have stood by. "What you put into your work, is what you get out of it." If you conduct yourself in a professional manner with parents and co-workers, continue learning through conferences and workshops, implementing curriculum goals, as well as joining a professional organization, such as the Association of Early Childhood Educators, you will NOT be viewed as a babysitter. I have seen Ece's leave the field because they thought that they were being considered "babysitters", when really, THEY were seeing themselves as this. "What you put into your work, is what you get out of it."
