My daughter will be 4 in April. She used to be a very good eater. Then in the fall of 2003, she stopped eating - for about 2 months, she ate almost nothing, but still drank milk. Then suddenly she started eating again, regularly, everythin, no problem. In August 2004, she started doing it again - refusing all the foods that she liked, saying she's not hungry. I didn't make an issue, hoping it would pass, just like a year before. It's January now and she is still not eating. She lost about 2 kgs in the past 4 months, and we did blood tests, urine, stool tests, evrything seems fine. We are going for a sweat test next week. Dr says if there is nothing wrong internally, then it's just a temperament issue, and I should give her Pediasure until she starts eating, so that she gets enough nutrients. The problem is she won't take it, we tried all the flavours, she says they are yucky and won't touch them. I tried puttting some in her milk and she started refusing the milk, saying it's too sweet. I'm putting just very small quantities of the white vanilla flavoured Pediasure in her milk now, hoping she won't feel the taste. This week, she also started refusing to take her favorite vitamin supplements.
She will only drink about a cup of milk a day, a glass of orange juice, and eat one or 2 cookies, maybe half an egg and half a banana, and that's about it (the good days). She will also eat popcorn and white chocolate if I offer it - but I'm not sure if I should, for fear that she won't eat anything else.
Anyone has had such problems? Any ideas? Help, I'm at my wits' end - she is also a very stubborn, cranky, stron-willed child, and this 'not eating' thing comes on top of it. Thanks!
