Subject: bedwetting

My son is 6 and still wetting the bed several times a night...we have tried DDAVP for 4 months, raising the dose a couple of times, with no results at all. We are taking him to a urologist next month. My son is also a very sound sleeper and does not wake up until morning. I cover his mattress with a vinyl table cloth, it is very cheap and has felt on the side I put on top so he's not sleeping on just plastic under his sheet. Another thing, my sons specialist has told us to NEVER wake our son up from a deep sleep to take him to the bathroom! She says the kids do not wake up enough to know what they're doing and this can cause them to wet the bed even as adults because their mind plays tricks on them in their dreams. They will dream that they are in the bathroom on the pot and will pee in their bed in their sleep. I don't know if it's true, but I don't wake him up. He also wears pull ups (he is very small still) at night because he pees so many times. He soaks through these and onto the sheets. I don't think his is hereditary, his dad or I neither one wet the bed. I do know that NO child should be made to feel guilty or punished for this helpless act! Do you really think they like waking up soaked in stinky pee?
