Subject: 8 1/2 year old not eating

I read the previous posts and didn't see much for kids over 4. My son is 8 1/2 years old and has been having extreme anxiety about eating for almost 2 weeks. He gets so worked up and yesterday complained that the center of his chest was stinging. Previously he would just say "my stomach hurts all over". We called the doctor over the weekend and he suggested our son was dehydrated so we have been trying to get him to drink more water. He refuses juice and sports drinks as well as milk. Our next door neighbor is an acupuncturist and gave us some suggestions to calm our son including not allowing cold foods before bedtime, decreasing milk products, lavender oil at bedtime, pressure points inside the upper ear lobe and lower inside ankle. We went to the ER last night and were told he was fine. We are going to follow up with his regular doctor tomorrow (monday) and my son has an appointment with a child therapist on Tuesday. The ER doctor didn't think doing an xray was necessary but thought it might be possible he has an ulcer. He wasn't worried about it enough to do any further tests. In our case I feel my son has some extreme anxieties regarding throwing up and getting sick. He paces around the house, rings his hands and speaks irrationally when he has gotten himself so hungry he can't stand it. But not enough to eat. Hopefully all of these tools together will help him. I'm determined to find the cause even if it is me leaving him alone. I am very worried.
