I think that all children's beds should have a rubber protective sheet over the mattress and under the topsheet. Even if your child is not a bedwetter, there may be a time when he or she may be very sick and not able to get out of bed to get to the bathroom in time. And yes having rubber pants and/or a rubber sheet would really save a thousand dollar mattress. My mom always had one on her bed when she was pregnant with my sister (in case her water broke). Rubber Sheets Save Mattresses (Better safe than sorry).
