The plan we have for employees (and only for full time employees) is costing almost $600 a month per employee for a plan that does not cover as much as it used to. The center pays a percentage of the cost. I recently had blood work done, which was not covered, and I had to pay almost $300 out of pocket. The next time it is required by the doctor, I'm not going to have it done. Something needs to be done to make available reasonable health care for everyone, not just child care workers. Some suggestions. Do you have an organization for child care workers in your state? Check it out to see if they have health insurance. Ours is through a Chamber of Commerce group. Have you contacted independent insurance agents to see what is available? Can you get together with other centers to investigate the options? A larger group has more buying power and may be able to get lower rates. No matter what you find, it will be expensive!
