Good progress on BM with four year old
Just thought I would add some positive progress. My daughter is 4 1/2 and has had problems with doing BMs not in her nappy always. There is nothing wrong with her - just fear. I was advised by the doctor that this is a long process. First he told me she has to make friends with the toilet - make the room fun, and put absolutely no pressure on her. Six months along and real progress made. I backed off any pressure. The room with the toilet became more friendly. She always did BMs either in anppy, or when I had got rid of them earlier, in her underpants, always standing up. I tried to encourage her not to do it in her underwear but she could still stand up. So she stood, after the bath, with nothing on and still standing up. I gently placed the potty nearby. Meanwhile I added prunes and lactalose to her diet. This has taken a long time but real progress. She now starts standing up and then will sit down. This real fear is a nightmare for us all but slowly with very little pressure, only gentle praise for achieving, has been the way. Hope this helps.
