Infant and Toddler Care
I am the Assistant Director at a large center. We have what is called a Baby Steps grant and while working on this grant there have been several things I have learned in infant and toddler care. First, the specialists do not want "schedules" in those rooms. The chilren are on their own schedule for eating and sleeping. Granted, for toddlers this isn't always doable as lunch is made by our cook and served at a particular time. I do think that she really means that the children sleep when they need to and "art" activities are not "forced" upon the children but offered and other choices are made available. The best resource I have seen for this age is called the Active Learning books, they have them for each age group. They are very easy to use and have great activities. (you would look for Active Learning for ones, or Active Learning for Toddlers etc) I would also recommend the ITERS book as a guideline also. It too is easy to use and shows where you are on working with those age groups. ITERS stands for Infant Toddler Environmental Rating Scale and is used for our grant observations. Hope this helps!!
