Subject: Smearing

Smearing is very common amongst Autistic children, or children on the ASD scale. It is more about the texture and feel that gives him pleasure. You need to find a substitute material that gives the same texture feeling. Try a pot of childrens play slime which he can run through his fingers, squeeze and rub, alternatively set up an activity area for him to play in with the use of soft clay. Once he has satisfied his need he will forget about smearing his poo. Try it, you might just be surprised at the result.
