That is alarming! Many people who have responded on this subject need to examine their teaching goals. When we teach these young children, human relationships and the development of their self image have to take priority over acedemic subjects(not that these cannot be mutually respected). Can you do more harm than good if you make a child a stranger to his own mother? You have to work with the entire family, be creative and supportive rather than rigidly hostile.
