Some kids that are preschool age may not be ready to start a structured program yet. As far as kindergarten kids need to start learning early in age because this is a fast paced world that we live in today and the earlier they can get an education the better. But one thing that should be optional to the parent is letting them decide if their child is ready for half day kindergarten or all day. Some kids can't handle that because it is a change for them.
