My family also owns and operates a Daycare Center (we're in MN) With the regulations - Equipment required, Training required, Qualifications required - by the State of MN it is very difficult to pay what our dedicated staff is truly worth! A lot of people do not realize what the expense is for all of the supplies, fees, meals etc. You have to consider worker's comp., taxes, supplies, meals, and you don't qualify for a lot extra funding if you are a for-profit business. (and let me tell you we are just now - after 7 years - starting to show a very small profit.) Being the daughter/sister of the co-owners I have opted to pass on my raise in order to allow for my staff to be able to get theirs. These individuals have been with me for a long time in terms of child care - but in order for this to happen, someone has to give a little.
