Wow, I am so glad I found this board. My son, age 9 thought he choked (he didn't) on 12/28/06. Since then, no solid food. He's had a CAT scan, Barium swallow, ENT visit, numerous counselors, psychiatrists, etc. and he still is not eating. He will only drink pediasure, Carnation Instant Breakfast, juice and milk. I did finally get him to eat plain vanilla ice cream and plain yogurt, but nothing with any kind of consistency in it. He's lost 10lbs and the doctors have no clue what to do for him. We are frantic to say the least. We've tried goal charts, ignoring it, punishing it, nothing works. He won't swallow his spit either and is constantly wiping his mouth on his shirt. I tried getting him into the eating disorder program at Stanford (5 hours away from us as we are in Reno, NV) - but he didn't "medically qualify". He's so anxious about everything now and I feel is all stems from him not eating properly. We can't even get him to put a small piece of food in his mouth - he totally freaks out.
Most every medical professional has said they'd never heard of this or seen this type of behavior before. I need to direct them to this board!
Any advice - anyone know of any professional I should take him to next? As the days click by, we are getting more and more scared that he will never eat!
