3 yr old afraid of choking
A good friend of mine found this information for me and I can not thank her enough. My husband and I are at the end of our rope. We do not know what to do. Our 3 yr old daughter has not eaten in over 5 days, she says she can't because she will choke. She will put food in her mouth at times and will chew and chew until it is all liquid and it pours out of her mouth because she can't make herself swallow it. She cries and is genuinely scared, you can see it in her eyes. She has to be hungry, how can she NOT be? She will drink liquids, eat ice cream and the occassional chocolate graham cookie. We've been giving her Pediasure to make sure she gets SOME kind of nutrients, she also is drinking whole milk & a cup of water at times. I am worried sick about her, we have tried every thing you could imagine and nothing is working. We have an appointment with her pediatrician tomorrow afternoon and she is a little stresses about that but she understands that it is something we have to do or she is going to get sick. I think she WANTS help, you can tell she wants to be able to eat but she is just too scared. Sometimes though she will say "I'm not hungry" just so she doesn't even have to try and when we make her sit there with her food she gets very stressed out. I just feel so helpless, I'm not equipt to handle this and just want to deal with this for her and I can't :( It is relieving to know that we are not alone though. Just some background, she has choked before on some chicken and also if she gets too much in her mouth she will throw up. Last week I remember her saying she had food stuck in her throat and she looked very scared. I finally was able to talk her into taking a few drinks and it seemed to wash it down but she was still very afraid. I believe it was a couple of days after that when this all started. Thank you for reading our story, Kristi & Damon
