Young children and television
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no screen time for children under two. They further recommend that children over two spend less than two hours per day with screen media "because excessive viewing has been linked to a plethora of physical, academic, and behavioral problems." These problems are too complex to go into here. But as a children's physical activity spe t, I can say that my primary concern is that screen time translates into sedentary time! The National Association for Sport & Physical Education recommends that preschoolers participate in 60 minutes of structured physical activity per day and 60 minutes and up to several hours of unstructured physical activity per day. Unfortunately, there are all too few children reaching such levels these days.
