Subject: new director

Congratulations to all wonderful directors out there. The teachers are our children. Some of them need redirection, encouragement, structure, and lots of love. Every teacher is so different. When I have a new idea or suggestion I ask them to think about it and then to get back to me about their thoughts. I find that I am truly amazed at thier insight and talent when I allow them to blossom and think on thier own. Sounds just like the classroom, doesnt it? My only rule is that I encourage them to work things out with each other and with building each other up. I meet with them one by one to coach responses. They are usually more receptive to suggestions when they are in the office. They usually leave thinking that it was there own thoughts and they feel good about themselves. I give them plenty to read and insist they run lead meetings with thier assistants to empower them. Some days are great some days are not. Every day is an opportunity to get better and better. Never stop believing in your staff and you will see them rise to your expectations. We will always have disappointments but never lose your understanding self. We all work very hard every day and need each other to re-energize our enthusiasm. Raise the emotional quotient in your environment and the teachers will take more risks and not have as much resistance. Thank you for being out there, it does get lonely sometimes.
