    Subject:Articles on Abeka Curriculum

I am currently a ECE student at NMTC and I have an assignement to do for my curriculum development class. I am researching Abeck curriculum in the Early CHildhood classroom. I know lot about Abeka itself ( I used it myself for about 6 years then went to PCC for a semester). However, I need to find articles on the internet about the curriculum and I am having problem finding any. If anyone knows where I can find articles on Abeka in the Early Childhood CLass Room, please let me know. Thanks

    Subject:A Teachers cry for help

Hello my name is Vera and I work in a childcare center. I have been working with children for about ten years now. My best years were at a center called DBCC. This daycare focus on the child and the parent's needs. The children learned through play. Now granted I came from center's that stress the children in learning their abc and 123's but it seemed to be more important than play. Well to make a long story short but interesting. Learning through play is so much better than contantly making a child do teacher's art. Children should be able to explore the world around them that is how they learn. Sitting at a table becomes boring, frustrating and loose interest in wanting to learn is not good. It is ok for a child to get dirty or if food spills on their clothes, or painting and mixing colors together and watch it turn another color, playing in playdoh and water play is so much better. Parent's you need to understand children don't play all day they are learning whether you know it or not. My years at the daycare center ended in 2005 and now I am working for daycare center's that don't get the concept just yet. They try all these kind of curriculum's and foolish cut out's instead of hanging a child's true art that they are proud of. Also parent's you should not stress a child about getting dirty that is what Tide and Gain and other detergent products are for. I am experience that now and it is very disturbing that a child can't be a child and have fun without parent's and childcare owner's stressing children out by their crazy curriculum's. Children have a way of having a low self esteem and complex about themselves because of what we teach them. Parent's and teachers have to much expectations for children and they are forgetting what it was like for them as children. I want my child to come home with paint or telling me about their adventures in school, they have a class pet and they got a chance to observe it and the list goes on. Social skills also play a big role in childcare. Childcare center's need to evaluate their curriculum's and stop stressing our little future. My reason for this article our world today is not safe and our children may not have opportunities to play outside or go visit a friend next door. We have to want the best for our children and teach them how to be safe in their own world and to understand it not a piece of paper with the letter Aa on it. Children have feelings, needs and concerns. Please hear my cry out. Think back when you were a child how much things had you in stress- everyone got a star but you. Think about it. Thank you

    Subject:NO! THANK YOU

I just returned to the feild (E.C.E.) and we do all this paper work and sitting at the desk. The teachers complain about behavior problems but no one realize the program that is being implimented for the 3 y.o. class is for elementry and not pre school i wish they would understand 2 hours of sitting doing paper work is boring. insted of opening the centers and implimenting the leson along with some of the paper work. It will cut down on the problems in the class. they need to also redirct and guide the children on positive behavior. well put ( appaude you )

Subject:What Environment is Best for my child

I am responding to your plea for help. I too am so overwhelmed, you see I have just spent two weeks visiting daycare centers, learning centers, childcare academies, etc. and I just think I am more confused now that when I first started looking. My daughter is 3.10 and she has been in an in-home daycare environment with a loving woman with on average 3 children. Now, my daughter is asking to go to preschool and her father and I are taking this as it is time for her to go to the next step (Preschool). The only environment that seemed to well-rounded was the Montessori environments that I attented. I really liked the individual time, the wonderful materials, and the appreciation for the environemnt at such an early age, not to mention the practical skills. But cost is also a factor. What points can you share to help us decide whether to leave her where she is or try preschool now. My daughter has also effortlessly learned her alphabet, colors, most shapes and recognizing numbers up to 10 so I feel she has a great foundation. Thanks for any recommendations.
