Dear Employer: I heard that you were hiring, and I wanted you to know that I was your most qualified candidate. Of all the other people that were seeking your job position, I had the most diverse range of job skills that all those people combined don?t have. You see, I currently have what our society may call a "career."I call it a "passion", because without passion this field would be as empty as a multi-millionaire football player?s intellect. "Passion" because it is the only explanation why this field has survived. But, I digress. My job skills were as followed: Custodial Attendant- I have performed numerous tasks to upkeep the aesthetically pleasing environment I work in. I?ve wiped tables, scrubbed floors, cleaned human excrement, and sanitized everything and anything that came in contact with persons. I have washed dishes, laundry, and materials. I?m pretty much the reason why the space I work in, was enjoyable and presentable. Entertainer- I?ve sang, danced, and acted, in front of hundreds of people. Actually, there was a specific time in the day, where people would routinely gather for my performance. I had a tough crowd to please, a crowd that tended to interrupt or even walk out on my carefully planned out performance. I even had many good days, so great that my audience sang the words, and danced to the moves I performed. Masseuse- I have mastered the art of massage on an individual basis. I had many clients that demanded my skills daily. My skills were so high in demand, that I would massage two clients at a time (with two different techniques of course), because I was on a time constraint, and had a line of at least four other clients that needed my service. To heighten my clients? enjoyment, I would also dim the lights and play melodic music. If all goes well, our (the client and I) goal was achieved. You see I helped my clients cross the threshold to dreamland. Caterer- On a daily basis, I rolled a cart full of food into a room. The food needed to be cut, measured, placed on plates, and served with unique presentation. While my customers were enjoying outside festivities, I was inside setting the table, placing food in the oven to keep it warm, pouring beverages into their containers, and then escorting the customers to their seats. In addition to catering, I also sat with my customers and lighten the mood with educational chatter. But above all, I was a teacher, an educator, a child care provider, the one who molds the future of our society, the one cares for your children as if they were her own, and the one who?s responsible to help your child develop physically, socially, emotionally, and intellectually. I was an Early Childhood Educator who took on the roles, that ordinary people can?t tackle. I may not get paid well in terms of cash and diamonds, but I?m showered with art masterpieces, with "desserts" made of sand, with smiles, laughs, "friends" and with the everyday occurrence of seeing your children execute what you had taught them. You see, money and diamonds are dispensable and can be lost, but the laughs, learning, and love I instilled to those children took root in the present and will bloom in the future. Love, An Early Childhood Educator

    Subject:Go Girl!

Just read your article, and loved it! I have been in Childcre for over 25 years, and agree with everything you wrote. If more people could see what we do as caregivers/teachers, they may insist that we receive MORE pay, than what we do. Our Careers are a very important part of the future of Americas children!

I have been inspired by what you have said. It is so important to have ECE like you. We need to remember that we are the ones teaching the future, and if you love what you are doing like I do, its not a job its my career and my passion for life. Thanks for the words to keep me going.
