Has anyone else noticed the dramatic decline in ongoing professional development courses. I studied and recieved my diploma in 94, and have worked full time in erly childhood since then. I am a strong believer in professional development seminars to refresh, strenghen, devlop and extend yourself. BUT everyone that used to offer them no longer does becuase of 'budget' constarints. Is it the same every where? How do you feel about attending confrences unpaid on your weekend?

I work in a small community centre where we are encouraged to attend workshops held by Creche and Kindergarten Association. They have a variety of subjects including Programming, music, working with Toddlers and Babies etc. I'm sorry I don't know how much it will cost etc but I'm sure you can find out through their website etc. I hope this helps!!!!

Thankyou - C&K; are the only ones left in our area - I went to their last 3 anual confrences... they were excellent BUT i very much got the impression that they rather dislike childcare workers! One of the guest speakers at one, in his speach was going on about how we are 'pushing' them out of the industry - i wanted the ground to swallow me! as i was sitting in the middle with my childcare tag on!
I have been thinking about organising a interest/support group for local early childhood workers - where we would meet once a month and have a different topic each night, depending on cost - organising guest speackers ect.
thanks for your feedback

In our area there is an organization called TLC and they do lots of trainings at our center - so we don't have to go anywhere for our annual hours. Their site is www.trainiglearningandconsulting.org. Hope that this helps.

Subject:resent it!
|
Narell,
I do attend workshops in the evenings and on weekend and I resent EVERY moment of them. I run a family child care out of my home and according to the regs - I have to take what breaks down to 15 hours of trainings a year. If you don't, they could close you down - Yeah, well that's MY time, my family time, I pay for the trainings AND I don't get an reimbursement for it because I don't qualify.
