Hello Rose,
A lot of schools offer orientation programmes before school starts where you and your child can visit the school and become familiar with what happens within the school and what is expected. If your child's school is not offering these programmes, perhaps you could call the school and arrange to visit so that the school and its expectations aren't so new and unfamiliar to you.
Good luck!

Hello
I teach Pre K so we help transition teh children and parents into kindergarten. My district has very high expectations but not all do so the big thing for you to do is make an appointment to go vist the classroom where yoru child will be going. you can meet the teacher and see the routine of the classroom. You can help your child at home by helping prepare them with name writing and tracing. Identifying letters and sounds. counting and numbers. When you are in the frocery store have your child count how many items you have see it he/she can find a lable with a particular letter or something that starts with a particular letter. Making little games like this is fun for the children and a great way of learning.

If your little one hasn't had any preschool type experiece, try to get involved in some type of activity where he/she can be with same age children in a somewhat structured setting. If you think seperation anxiety may be a factor, get practice in with that , too. Leaving the child with people you know and trust for short periods of time will help you both with the transition coming this fall. As far as what to excpect for the curriculum, thalk to the kindergarted teacher. As far as I know there aren't any places that preschool is a prerequesite for knidergarten. Where I live kindergarten isn't even required. Kids just need to be in school after their 6th b-day. We don't advertise that fact to freely, though. I teach 4k and have taught 5k. Name wrting, letter/number recognition, simple math concepts, colors and shapes should give most kids a good foundation to start.
Don't let your child feel your nerves or you may set him/her up to be extra nervous, too. Good luck.
