Subject:Advice From Non-Traditional Students
|
I need some advice from other non-traditional students--I received my ECE associates degree in 1996 from a community college. A larger women's Catholic college (about 35 miles from here) offered classes locally and I continued on in my studies but quit just 19 credits shy of my bachelor's degree ( I need to student teach and take an Algebra class). I would like to finish my schooling but I have about $30,000.00 in credit card debt, loans (student and otherwise) and other living expenses to pay. A local college would accept most of my classes from the women's college but not all and I would have to take additional classes (at $650.00 PER CREDIT!!) but it is close by (less than 5 miles) and I wouldn't have to drive far for the classes. I would be able to take a leave of abscence from my job at a daycare center to student teach and maybe even be able to do part of my student teaching at a Primary Development Program (as a Kindergarten class and get paid for the first 8 weeks)at the center. My employer has a partial tuition reimbursement program so I would be crazy not to continue my studies but I don't know how I would make ends meet for the 16 weeks of student teaching. Has any one else been in this situation? How did you handle it?
