Subject:What now?
|
I am raising two wonderful boys that are 12 and 16. Of their short lives we have had childcare in the home going on 10 years now. As a divorced mom that was a way that I could be with them and watch them grow and make a decent living. We have wonderful children come into our lives and most of them are like siblings to my children. As they do they grow up and leave the nest to start school and go on with their lives outside of childcare. My question is, is it time for me to move on and go to work outside of the home? I love the children and the difference that I can make in their lives, but the twelve hour days and now my boys seem to be needing their space, more that just their own room.

Unfortunately, Barbara, no one can answer that for you. I worked outside of my home for 10+ years and have run my own home-based childcare for 4. There are things I don't miss and never will. I love being my own boss - running my program my own way - etc. But if you don't like your hours you made, why not just change your ours? Sure, you might loose a parent or two, but families can be replaced - and my children have their own spaces -> in their own rooms. But if it's the socialization of going to work (co-worker, rush hour traffic, etc) that you miss, then those are things you probably can find in home-based child care.

Oh I definately love being my own boss. What I am wondering about is the vacation time, Insurance( this is a big one.) Yes I do miss interaction with older people. Any ideas?
