What do you think of a 2 year 9 month old attending nursery school from 9:00 till 4:30, five days a week? This is not a child care facility. It is pre school.

I personally think we should avoid 5 day a week programs for children under the age of three - but each child is different and every family's needs are different. If work commitments of the parents require the child does need care 5 days a week then they need to choose a program that is warm/friendly/nurturing for their child. I am a big beliver in play based learning - you could not expect a 2 year old to cope with a heavily structured program. So i would be investigating what the teachers philosphy is on play and learning. Another important issue is continuity of staff - how long do they retain their staff on average - how old are their staff members - will your child have the same teachers all of the time? (why are the hours longer than normal school hours) ironically in QLD australia we name our early chilhood settings in reverese with kindergarden for 3-4 year olds and preschool/prep for 5 year olds (the year before they start school) In Australia you would not get a child that young into Kindergarden/preschool - your options would be center based care or home based care - at least until the child was three.
