The child's imagination is developed and encouraged in their early years. 5-10 is probably late. Just look at programs for preschoolers. Barney is noisy, quick, constant change, bright colorful activities. Mister Rogers in our area is on a 6:30am time slot, the show is slow paced, quiet, and encourages imagination (on much too early for children to watch). Commercialism is rampant for the toddler set, kids want quick entertainment too occupy their time. I beleive parents are to blame for the most part, imagination requires talking (turning off that TV), going to the park, those slow lazy days. Parents want things quick and now, so the children follow their lead. Oh, the progress of materialism.
