Are you talking about the daily activities schedule for each classroom or the scheduling of staff in each program? If it is the staff schedule, that usually determined by the ratios. My staff have a set schedule and it usually does not change. However, if it is the daily activities schedule, I think you should begin to set up communications with the lead teacher about the schedule. If you have come up with your own schedule, but are not using it, can you meet with her to discuss it? Make a list of pros and cons of both schedules and sit down with her. Make sure she knows why you feel the schedule isn't working the best for you and your children. I feel very strongly in letting my staff set their own daily schedule. After all, they are the ones working with the children. Since you just started, maybe you need to work the set schedule for awhile before trying to change things. It may be set for a very good reason. There are some parts of our daily schedule that can't be easily changed, like outdoor play time. We try to stick to a schedule there so we don't have all ages on the playground at the same time. My preschool teacher started in October and worked with the schedule used by the previous teacher. She just came to me this week, requesting a change in lunch time. After explaining her reasoning, it made a lot of sense to me, and I approved the change. I don't think a few days is long enough to determine a change. But start talking with the lead teacher, asking why things are done at a certain time. This may help you understand. Keeping the lines of communication open with your superiors is very important. Good Luck!

    Subject:choosing your schedule

Hi nancy, what I like about these sharing boards that when u read the messages u remember what did u do in such an incident. I think ur daycare is making ur life easier, being a new teacher, why don't u give them some time to learn there way of doing things and u can suggest new ideas or an extra art project or a new idea for the blocks center. in this way u will show them your work and creativity and after some time you can ask " do you think we can plan the daily schedule at our next staff meeting ?" good luck.

Unfortunatly, I don't think it is the place of a "new commer" to try to make decisions or change the way a lead teacher does things unless the situation is very drastic, such as abuse or neglect. I would sit tight and try to make it work.
