Subject:How to recruit children for home child care

I opened up a home child care last November. I have had a couple children and they have came and gone. My question is how do I recruit children and keep them around?

Go to where the children are. Grocery stores, schools, parks, HOSPITALS, etc. Hang up and hand out fliars, business cards, etc, but also TALK TO PEOPLE. Let them know what you do and how you're sooooo wonderful! I even handed out fliars in my neighborhood (I went door to door). Once you get them in, communicate with the families often - get personal. Let them know, once their child is enrolled, that child is family. Where are you located?

I own and operate a Licensed Group Home Daycare/Preschool (capacity 12) in Michigan. I have been doing homecare for 4 years now. It takes a while to get started, but you have to have faith and patience. I only had 1 full-timer and 4 part-timers in the beginning. Now I am FULL to capacity and have a waiting list! Do you have a local Resource & Referral Agency (4C) that you can supply your profile to? They give your name out to prospective parents who call them. Make up cute flyers for grocery store bulletin boards. Make up brochures to put in neighborhood mail/paper boxes. Have business cards printed up and LEAVE THEM EVERYWHERE YOU GO. And trust me, once you get started and have your great reputation out there, WORD OF MOUTH is the BEST ADVERTISEMENT in the world! Best of luck!!! P.S. Do you have a website? You can create one free at www.freewebs.com. It is totally free. Check mine out at www.freewebs.com/littlesonbeam.

Try talking to real estate agents. Give them information about your program to share with people moving into your area. Also ask local pediatricians if you can leave information for parents to pick up. Think of places where parents with young children would go and ask permission to leave flyers Good luck.

Subject:Utilize the local Child Care Resource and Referral

Just wanted to check.....do you have a Child Care Resource and Referral in your area? In MN parents call for names of providers with openings in their area. Daycare Providers can talk to the local agency for marketing ideas. In MN this is done with out charge for the child care and for the parent! It's a service that helps parents and provides free advertising for the daycare. Their information is only as good as the information you provide....it's very important to keep your record updated.
