    Subject:I need help finding resources

My two year old is not getting enough stimulation. She is not potty trained and most public daycare centers will not take her nor will they do 3hrs a day, two days a week (my ideal) without charging me $200/week because of the diapers. I have a potty chair but she hasn't been inclined to sit in it. We flush the poop from her diapers together but there isn't any interest to use the potty like mommy. Any suggestions for websites with activities/curriculum geared toward toddlers? I have play structures, books, toys you name it but she doesn't have other children to play with and looses interest quickly. Anyone know how can I find play groups for toddlers? She has also started skipping naps because she is not tired enough even though I still make her stay in her bed for an hour with the shades drawn and music playing. We don't watch television so I know that is not the problem and we go to the park at least two times a week for an hour, minimum. Any help would be much appreciated.

What you want is preschool not a daycare center. Many churches run preschools and often public schools may even have a preschool. The difference is a preschool of 3 hours 2 to 4 days a week. most daycares are all day with a preschool program in the morning because most parents work. Most preschools are not set up for toilet training but in the meantime there are other options, Start a play group of your own with mothers of children of the same age. neighbors, people from the park . people from church a group of 2 to 4 toddlers would be ideal the library story hour is always great. Sunday school is also an option. plus planning an activity daily with just the two of you. Bake cookies, count and fold wash cloths, paint a picture, make fruit salad for a snack.

Is there a story hour at your local library? This would put you in contact with other children your daughter's age. Maybe you could set up an informal play group on your own with some of the other mothers. It sounds like you have lots of activities for your daughter. As for potty training---if you're sure there's nothing physicaly wrong, just offer the potty. Eventually she'll decide it's time and will probably potty train quickly. If you push it too hard, she may fight you. Good luck!

Any preschool that will not take your child because she is not potty trained is not a preschool for your child. It is not developmentally appropriate for even a three-year old to be potty trained just because she is three. Keep looking around. There has to be a preschool in your area that believes in a developmentally appropriate curriculum.

I agree that children develop in many ways. Some may not be ready at 3. I teach a pre-kdg class in my local public school system. Being potty trained is helpful but not required. We have 20 3-5 yr old children and don't have time to change a child. We do if they have an accident but it is very hard for the assistant to be out of the classroom that long to do it. Teachers and assistants work closely together in our classrooms and are included in the teaching process so they need to be in the classroom. We do work through that because that is part of teaching. But it is very helpful if the children are trained before they come.

unfortunately even though a child might not be ready most states regulations are that children in diapers need to be in seperate class rooms than the other children Thus the push to be trained by age 2 in childcare centers.

Our daughter is 5, and is still not potty trained. Her preschool does not require it, she just gets changed at the same time as the other children. They actually prefer her to be in diapers as oposed to pull-ups.

    Subject:pullups

The reason they might not encourage pullups is because of the time it takes to remove shoes and pants/jeans to replace a pull-up and then put the pants/jeans on and the shoes. Plus, most rooms designed for that age of child don't have the facilities to change diapers. With a diaper you don't have to remove both, and if the child has a lot of accidents it takes the helper out of the room too long and leaves too many children under the supervision of just one person.
