I started working at a preschool in October. The name of my class is called the Huff- N- Puffs. Since no one can figure out what a Huff -N- Puff is, my director told me that I can rename the class whatever I like. Problem is I can't think of anything. I've posted a sign for parents, but they can't think of anything either. Our Am K class tried to help me out, but Franks and beans really doesn't appeal to me. Can you help? What are some of the names you have at your center?

I am in Australia - our rooms are named after native Australian animals, When the centre opened 10 years ago we were Numbats, Koalas, Quolls, and Bilbies but almost no one knew what a Quoll or a Numbat was - so the rooms were renamed in animals that the children recognised so we are now the Joeys, Possums, Koalas and Walabys. good luck with picking your new names! Australia. Our room names are simply Blue, Red, Purple, Yellow and Green. Green being the 4-6 year room. All rooms are painted in their respective colours. Another centre I have worked in also used names of native Australian animals. Each animal chosen for each particular age group seemed fitting. Koalas 0-1 year, Possums 1-2 years, Kangaroos 2-3 years, Wombats 3-4 years and Echidnas 4-5 years. They even named the kitchen - Kookaburra Kitchen! Hope this helps or helps someone with the same dilemma. Cheers!

Ask your students. Help them make a list and then have them vote on it. Of course you use your discretion and screen out some names. Let them be part of the discussion. It's their classroom.

    Subject:room names

We use color names and shapes for each of our rooms, i.e. red triangle room, blue circle room. The colored shapes our outside of our rooms on a flag and a sign. The children's backpack's all have tags with their colored shape to help adults guide them to their correct room. We have a school-wide postal system for 6 weeks. The children address letters to friends in the other classes using the colored symbols to help student volunteers deliver the mail. The colored shapes for rooms provide a lot of learning opportunities for our young children.
